cncArtist for Onefinity: CAM for Mac, iPad and iPhone
Native Mac software for designing, simulating and cutting on Onefinity. Free to download. $299 once to cut without limits. No subscription.
Why cncArtist suits Onefinity
Onefinity machines are popular enough that many owners reach for Vectric first, and then discover it only runs on Windows. cncArtist has presets for the Machinist, Woodworker, Journeyman and Foreman, and for the Elite Foreman with its Masso controller, which uses the Masso post instead.
If you cut larger sheets, tiling and nesting are built in.
What it writes, and how to send it
Onefinity (Buildbotics) post
File extension .nc. The post writes the tool change into the program, so a multi-bit job stays in one file and pauses where you swap bits.
Masso G3 post
File extension .nc. The post writes the tool change into the program, so a multi-bit job stays in one file and pauses where you swap bits.
How to send it
The Onefinity controller's own touchscreen and web interface: copy the .nc file to a USB drive or upload it through the controller, then load it there. Check Onefinity's own guide for the steps on your firmware version.
We have not confirmed the exact file-transfer steps for every Onefinity firmware version, so follow Onefinity's own guide for loading files. cncArtist's posts are checked with golden-file tests: the output for a sample job is compared with a saved copy, so a change cannot slip through unnoticed. That is a software test, not a certification on any machine. Run the simulator and an air cut on a new setup before every first cut.
Presets for Onefinity
Pick your machine by maker and model and cncArtist fills in the bed size, Z travel, safe height and post. These are the makers' published cutting areas, and you can change any figure.
| Preset | Bed | Z travel | Post |
|---|---|---|---|
| Onefinity Machinist | 406 × 406 mm 16 × 16 in | 133 mm | Onefinity (Buildbotics) |
| Onefinity Woodworker | 816 × 816 mm 32.1 × 32.1 in | 133 mm | Onefinity (Buildbotics) |
| Onefinity Journeyman | 1219 × 816 mm 48 × 32.1 in | 133 mm | Onefinity (Buildbotics) |
| Onefinity Foreman | 1219 × 1219 mm 48 × 48 in | 160 mm | Onefinity (Buildbotics) |
| Onefinity Elite Foreman (Masso) | 1219 × 1219 mm 48 × 48 in | 160 mm | Masso G3 |
Features that matter on Onefinity
Every line checked first
The simulator plays the whole job back in wood, marks gouges on the board and lists each problem with its toolpath or G-code line, before anything reaches the machine.
Longer than your bed
Tiling splits a long sign into sections that line up across the joins, and two-sided jobs flip on guided registration.
Nesting with tabs
Pack parts onto the sheet to waste less wood, with tabs that hold each one in place.
Restart after a broken bit
Pick the point where the cut stopped and save a restart file, so you only recut what is left.
From design to first cut
- Pick your Onefinity in Machine. The Elite Foreman preset switches to the Masso post automatically.
- Design, choose toolpaths and simulate the job.
- Export the ZIP and take the .nc file from it.
- Move it to the controller by USB drive or its web interface.
- Set zero on the machine and make an air cut before the real one.
Questions
Which post does the Elite Foreman use?
The Masso G3 post, because the Elite runs a Masso controller. The other Onefinity models use the Onefinity (Buildbotics) post.
What file does it write?
A plain .nc G-code file.
Can I use my Vectric bit library?
Yes. Your Vectric tool database (.vtdb) imports directly into cncArtist's bit library.
