Masso G3 controllers

cncArtist for Masso: CAM for Mac, iPad and iPhone

Native Mac software for designing, simulating and cutting on Masso G3 controllers. Free to download. $299 once to cut without limits. No subscription.

Why cncArtist suits Masso

Masso G3 controllers are on retrofitted routers and on machines like the Onefinity Elite. cncArtist's Masso post uses a tool-length offset after each tool change, the way a machine with a touch plate expects.

There is no named preset for every Masso machine. Start from Masso G3 retrofit and set your bed size and Z travel in Machine.

What it writes, and how to send it

Masso G3 post

File extension .nc. The post writes the tool change into the program, so a multi-bit job stays in one file and pauses where you swap bits.

How to send it

The MASSO touchscreen controller: copy the .nc file to a USB stick (or send it over the network) and load it on the controller. Check MASSO's own guide for the current steps.

Rotary output has golden-file tests but has not been run on a real rotary axis. cncArtist's posts are checked with golden-file tests: the output for a sample job is compared with a saved copy, so a change cannot slip through unnoticed. That is a software test, not a certification on any machine. Run the simulator and an air cut on a new setup before every first cut.

Presets for Masso

Pick your machine by maker and model and cncArtist fills in the bed size, Z travel, safe height and post. These are the makers' published cutting areas, and you can change any figure.

Features that matter on Masso

Every line checked first

The simulator plays the whole job back in wood, marks gouges on the board and lists each problem with its toolpath or G-code line, before anything reaches the machine.

Rotary

Wrap a design around a cylinder for candles, handles and turnings, or index around it, if your machine has a rotary axis fitted.

Holder check

Before a deep pocket, cncArtist checks that the collet and nut clear the walls, not only the bit.

Nesting with tabs

Pack parts onto the sheet to waste less wood, with tabs that hold each one in place.

From design to first cut

  1. Pick Masso G3 retrofit (or Onefinity Elite Foreman) in Machine and enter your bed size.
  2. Design and toolpath. Add a rotary axis in Machine if you have one fitted.
  3. Simulate and export.
  4. Copy the .nc file to a USB stick or send it to the controller.
  5. Load it on the MASSO, set work zero and run an air cut.

Questions

Which file extension?

.nc

Does it do tool changes?

The post writes the tool change into the program, so a multi-bit job stays in one file and pauses where you swap bits.

Is every Masso setup covered?

No. It is one post with sensible defaults. You can copy it and edit it in the post editor.
